Mummies

I made these delicious mummies for a group of friends that got together this evening. I got the idea from How Does She?, but changed it up just a little.

She makes them on candy sticks, but I didn't have time to go buy any. Also, I used mini chocolate chips where she used eyeball candy. She got candy eyeballs from Sweet Baking Supply, which are incredibly cheap and I will probably do that next time.

I think they turned out great although a little sloppy! Also, How Does She, shows some ghosts that she made too which I will probably try out next year!

Bad Habit

30 Day Challenge
Day 4

A habit you wish you didn't have...

Only one? Let's see...I could probably think of a million. I would say things sure would be easier if I would just learn to put things away after I am done with them. I am the worst about leaving something out and before I know it there are 15 things I need to put away.

Amigos, Friends, Compadres

30 Day Challenge
Day 3

A photo of you and friends...

We really don't have any recent photos with friends or none that I can show off my husband in as it's just me and a girlfriend. This photo was taken around 4th of July when Megan (front left) came to visit with her boyfriend Brent (across from her). Megan is my former roommate and she moved to Oklahoma a little over a year ago. Cody & I are on the left side of the table. Rachel & Tyler are on the right side of the table. Rachel has been my close friend since 7th grade!

I will just be honest in saying that I am all about giveaways! Loving this one I stumbled across at Somewhat Simple.

One lucky winner will get a $50 gift certificate to The Ribbon Retreat and they have the cutest stuff! I personally hope I win so that I can get ribbons for my business. I will likely be placing an order with them anyway so the gift certificate would help lessen the load.

A blogging we will go...

30 Day Challenge
Day 2

The meaning behind my blog name...

Before I decided to start an Etsy shop my blog was, To Dabble in Design. I started this because I loved crafting but wasn't very good at it. I always had these great ideas but never carried them out. I started making Pillowcase Dresses for Orphans in Kampala, Uganda. (See more on that here.) As I did research for different patterns, ideas for boys shorts and hairbands I ran across a bunch of crafting blogs. I started following several of them regularly. I began to get very inspired and started making Tutu's to sell. However, I didn't think my blog was the best name for a business so I needed to come up with something else.

This was a long process since I wanted it to be something that would be perfect today and ten years from now. I went through idea after idea but everything was either taken, too long or too boring. I asked for a lot of advice from friends and finally after lots of thinking I came up with Giggles, Glitz & Glam. This is absolutely perfect for my Tutu's and all things girly! Not sure if it will be all that fitting if I choose to start making boy things, but it will just have to do...

Day 1

This photo is from the Texas State Fair. Last year we went and Cody and I took pictures in this exact spot so of course we had to repeat it.

And now for 15 random facts about me...

1. I am allergic to bananas, melons and avocado. I still eat the avocado even though it makes my throat very itchy and often times obnoxious for others.

2. I have a strange obsession with alphabetizing my movies.

3. I love my morning coffee even though it's probably not the best for me. I look forward to it everyday and when I decide not to have it I regret it every time.

4. I love spending an hour with a friend at Starbucks talking about life...if only there were more hours in every day.

5. I love playing board games especially with my family!

6. I would rather have sour candy than a piece of chocolate any day. In fact, I don't even like chocolate all that much.

7. We just got cable for the first time in over six months and I am officially addicted already. It's been like 3 days...

8. I love to blog and have been blogging for several years. Something to me is really fun about writing out how I feel or what I've done...whether anyone reads it or not. Plus it's fun to go back and read later down the road.

9. Every night before I go to bed I play a round of Nerts on my phone.

10. I desire to learn photographer better as well as photo editing. I love taking tons of photos especially of my nieces and nephew. I have learned some editing thus far but a lot of it completely boggles me.

11. We have two dogs and I love taking them to the dog park. We find ourselves taking them to the dog park instead of hanging out with friends. Does that make us losers? We have a 4 year old boxer named Abby and a 16 week old lab/border collie mix named Mikey.

12. I always need to match from head to toe and often times if it's possible I always match my under garments too. Cody always laughs at me when he sees that my t-shirt is purple and my socks are too! Or that I have a blue shirt on so I wear my Nike's with the blue swoosh...

13. I enjoy baking cakes and decorating them, but my skills are not up to par. In college, I decorate cakes when I worked at Coldstone but it's been awhile since I've done that.

14. I love frozen yogurt. This summer we tried to try out all the different local frozen yogurt shops so that I could find the best one.

15. I love driving a truck and could drive one for the rest of my life if it wasn't for my desire to raise a large family...I fear the swagger wagon like no other. Hoping for a nice SUV! :)

Hoo Am I?

1. How many times a year do you get your hair cut?
Prior to getting married maybe once a year. Luckily my husband's office has a salon and I get my hair cut and colored for $15 so I can do it way more often. I got every couple months probably!

2. Where is the worst place to be stuck waiting?
I really hate waiting at the doctor's office. I get so bored sitting there waiting and I wonder what I might be vulnerable to catching from the person next to me that is coughing up their lungs.

3. What are your favorite pizza toppings?
If I am getting pizza for delivery I love Meat Lover's! However there is a joint we frequent and my favorite pizza is plain Alfredo. Ooo, I like olives and mushrooms too!!

4. What's your favorite thing about where you live?
My favorite thing is that my church is very close so I live in the community that I do life with. I love the close friends we've made that live close by. My husband has to drive a little further to work, but it's worth it to be near the people we enjoy spending time with.

5. What's your favorite fruit? Veggie?

My favorite fruit would have to be grapes and my favorite veggies would be mushrooms.

Delicious Pumpkin Muffins

My mother introduced me to the best and easiest pumpkin muffins a few years ago. To my surprise they are super easy to make and not too bad for you.

You will need a box of Spice Cake mix, 15 oz can of pumpkin, and 1 c. water

Mix the cake mix, pumpkin and water in a mixing bowl until there is no cake mix showing! I normally just use half a can to measure the water.

I personally like to use cute fall baking cups when I make my muffins, but that is really up to you. I will suggest always making the mini-muffins as they are very moist and the larger they are the more of a mess they are. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes!

Then serve! I personally like to eat them fresh out of the oven with a little butter on top! These are always a hit too!

Pillowcase Dresses

Once a month, I meet with a small group of girls to make Pillowcase Dresses for girls in Uganda. We are partnered with The Pillowcase Project in their efforts and currently they are partnered with the ministry I work with, Christian Life Ministries. We have a need for 450 dresses to get to our orphanage in Kampala, Uganda for Summer 2011. So far we have made about 65 dresses, here is a small sample of the ones I made at our last sewing night.

I made the 5 above during our sewing night! Some were made straight from a pillowcase while others were made from donated fabric.

I especially love this one! I recall when we got the fabric I didn't really like it and thought it was ugly, however after adding the ruffle and the bright strings I love it!! :)

Also, it is our desire to send headbands with each of the dresses. We have learned that the girls love wearing headbands. It's partially because it helps distinguish them from the boys since they all have short hair.

This dress was made by Tasha and the headband was made by her mother. We made several more headbands, but they were attached to dresses I don't have photos of.

It is my desire to also send shorts to the boys, but I am not sure if we have the skill level plus we would need a little more than 600 shorts. If you have any ideas of what we could do or know of a super easy shorts pattern then let me know! Infact, if you are interested in helping with dresses, shorts or headbands please let me know.

Ideas for donations would be to make dresses, shorts or headbands. You could also donate any old fabric or other items that could be used to make the dresses.

Crafty Nerd

I officially feel like a nerd. Today I came home from work and as I opened the front door to go get the mail I found a box. I knew it had to be my tulle that I had ordered to finish the tutu's for my craft show.

I was so elated to go through all the beautiful colors. I can't wait to pick out which color combos I love and make them into cute little tutu's.

UT Tutu!

I have been really busy making tutu's for an upcoming craft show so I haven't had time to do anything else. I have a zillion ideas that I want to try and I keep seeing the cutest things on all these blogs, but all I have to offer are more tutu's...

We watched the Texas Tech vs. Texas game with some friends who root for UT so I made their little girls UT tutu's.
